Covid-19 tests in Islamabad fall to 800 in single day – Newspaper

ISLAMABAD: The number of Covid-19 tests conducted each day has fallen from over 6,000 to less than 800 in two months. On the other hand, cases have also reduced from around 1,000 reported in a day to a single digit.

According to a document, available with Dawn, on Saturday 713 samples were collected across the city out of which only two were found positive on Sunday and the positivity was recorded at 0.2pc.

District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia said even from those 700 tests, a number of people got themselves tested as it was a requirement for international travel.

“Even their samples are being found negative which is proof that the cases have minimised in the city. Although cases have been increasing in Europe, China and some other parts of the globe, a good thing is that we are not getting Covid-19 positive passengers arriving from abroad,” he said.

Responding to a question, Dr Zia said there was no burden of patients on hospitals and things seemed to be under control.

“However, I would suggest to people to continue wearing masks, maintain social distancing and get themselves vaccinated so that the country does not face another wave of Covid-19,” he said.
