Heavy amount proposed for Quaid Games in budget

ISLAMABAD: The proposed sports development budget for the year 2024-25 has earmarked a sizable amount for holding of the National Games (Quaid-i-Azam Games) as well as provision of missing facilities for holding of the South Asian Games in 2025.

A total amount of Rs1443 million has been proposed for new schemes for the upcoming fiscal year. Rs500 million (unapproved) has been proposed for the organization of national training camps, Rs100 million has been proposed for the coming financial year.

A hefty amount of Rs1949 million which was approved in 2022 for upgradation of Sports Complex in Islamabad is a continuing project with Rs312 million is expected to be released this year.

According to the available documents (PSDP), Quaid-i-Azam Games have been planned for 2025 with cost of Rs697 million. Half of the amount has been planned to be released during the coming financial year while the rest of the amount to be released next year.

Rs574 million was earmarked in 2022 for the completion of swimming pool within the sports complex with further Rs200 million has been earmarked for next financial year.

Rs636 million was set aside in July 2022 for the provision of missing facilities to hold the SA Games. The venture is expected to eat up another Rs388 million this time around.

Rs160 million have been proposed this year from the total amount of Rs463 million for hiring foreign coaches to train Pakistan athletes in different sports.

Rs120 million has yet again been proposed for the Bio Mechanical lab in Islamabad. The project is facing unnecessary delay for years now.

The construction of high altitude PSB Coaching Centre in Skardu (unapproved) will cost Rs3500 million.
